According to Newcastle Thunder coach, they have no intention to change the style of play even though style hardly suite the current league.
According to coach Mick Mantelli, they are planning to win League One game. And they want to follow the style they have been following all along.
The coach admits that the level of rugby they play is better suited to a higher level. But he is not in a mood to compromise. He instructed the players to follow the same style and get better at it. They are all set to play in the final of the League One Shield. They will be taking on North Wales Crusaders at the Kingston Park on coming Sunday.
Is it all about the competition? No, for them it is a chance to get a promotion by one point. They couldn’t make the Super 8s and now they plan to improve their position instead. As for Mantelli, he took charge of the club only in last October. According to him, they have been playing Championship rugby and no less. He admits to the fact that they didn’t aim for controlling game during this season. And he is aware of the fact that the style they have been following is better suited to the tier above. But he is confident that this move will only help the team to excel.
In no uncertain terms, he made it very clear that he is not going to compromise on the style for anybody. He believes that the only thing they need to do is to get better at the style they have been following. Consistency is very important, adds Mantelli. The players are supposed to play 70-80 minutes every week. And that strategy is opposite to the 40-50 hours. Are they going to derive results? Only time will tell.
