RICHARDS – THE CONDITIONS OF PLAY WEREN’T GREAT

The Director of Rugby for the Newcastle Falcons, Dean Richards has made it known that there was no other options that to halt the game between the Newport Gwent Dragons and the Newcastle Falcons which saw Newcastle in an early lead as they struck home 6-18.


Damp pitch and a continuous heavy rain threatened to disrupt the game as it began at the Rodney Parade. However, the tumultuous rain which seemed hell-bent on continuing all afternoon, forced the officials to bring the game to an end just 12 minutes before time.

However, with the game having gone past the 60-minute set mark, the 18-6 lead by the Falcons was allowed to stand as the final result of the game. Fortunately, the victory is their first victory since the beginning of the Anglo-Welsh Cup competition.
