After a frustrating season with the Falcons, Giovanbattista Venditti is returning home to play for the Italian rugby union club Zebre. Last season, the Italian winger featured only on nine occasions for the Premiership side.
Meanwhile, Newcastle Falcons have signed Vereniki Goneva to play out wide in the 2016-17 season. Earlier this year, Venditti was left out of the Italian team for the Six Nations Championship. He was seeking an opportunity to make his way into the plans of Italy’s new coach Connor O’Shea.
Newcastle director Dean Richards has extended his gratitude to Giamba (Venditti) and said that the team has enjoyed working with him. Richards also pointed out Venditti’s lack of opportunities to play in the first-team had affected his place in the national squad. Keeping that in mind, the chance to play for Zebre has come at a good time.
Richards went on to say that Newcastle Falcons have plenty of talents who can assume the role as a winger, but everybody thanks Vendetti for the effort he has put in at the club.
